The journey.

I am originally from the North Alabama area. Being a competitive athlete in middle and high school, I wanted to find a new sport that I could enjoy in my time off as a college student. Some friends back home were into rock climbing, so on weekend visits home, I would join them on occasion and found that I really liked the whole concept of the sport.

After attending the University of Alabama for a couple years, I changed directions and came home to pursue a real estate career. During this time a couple of friends helped me design and construct a home climbing wall so that I could still climb in my off time. I have always had a goal of owning a business one day, and I realized that I could combine my passion for climbing with my desire to own a business and open a bouldering gym of my own.

While visiting potential locations for the gym my mind kept coming back to the Tuscaloosa area. I loved the community and knew when I was a student here my climbing options were very limited. I had such a vision even then for what the climbing community in the Tuscaloosa/Northport area needed.

We have met some amazing people that helped us bring my vision to reality in just a few short months. We love having a family-owned gym that can support the local climbing community, and give climbers of all ages a place to call their own.

I would recommend Crux to anyone, whether they are an expert wall climber looking to practice their skills or someone just trying it out for the first time. They have everything you need to both relax and to test your limits, with plenty of comfortable seating and a variety of problems that are both fun and challenging. It's a perfect place to bring your friends and to make new ones, as there is already an amazing community building around Crux I also love Cash, the resident puppy!

Crux climbing is the very first gym for the climbing community in west Alabama to socialize and climb together. Crux is a place for everyone, no matter the skill, to come and train to become a better climber. There is a family atmosphere that makes the place special and motivated members that all help each other to get strong together.

I cannot entirely describe the impact this gym has had on my heart and mind. It is truly a place of community and growth and I am forever thankful for its existence.
